Great awesome recipie - not too mention great tips from readers. Another idea also is to use Ghee for frying (available from health food stores and indian grocers). It's essentially clarified butter, doesn't need to be refrigerated, and is super flavoursome and rich - so you only need a little bit of it as it goes a long way. =)

We add freshly squeezed orange juice to ours towards the end of cooking (the juice of one orange)...
Interesting note about garlic Reen.

Hey,
Long time viewer first time post-ing person =P
Just thought i'd let you know that even for the babies, dahl is best cooked with garlic and then removed at the end if you like. Lentils generally cause gas and the garlic tends to neutralise this + it's super good for you

I love dahl and my son loved it as a baby as well. It freezes great, so I'd make a big batch, freeze in ice cube trays and just defrost as needed. thanks for sharing, no one seems to believe me on this one,

Looks good (and easy too!)
Great site - enjoying it!

i LURVE dahl! thanks for a golden recipe, i can't get enough! even better, this dish is great to freeze.... so for the nights when takeaway seems to be the only option, a healthy microwave meal is the answer! x

I've been a big Loobylu fan for a long time and have been reading Kiddley since you started it. I just wanted to leave a comment and say that I just heard one of the radio announcers on my local radio station announce this link for listeners with kids! The radio station is http://cjvr.com and it's in Melfort, Saskatchewan - you've made it around the world!

Wow. I made this for dinner and it was a hit. The only thing I changed was to add half a chilli (the kids have decided they like chilli - yay!) and omitted the garam masala (I don't like it). Yum. The kids ate ALL of their dinner and the grown ups added hot relish that made their mouths burn. What more can you ask for? Thanks!
