Jen, just to confirm..yep, Meg was right: Sultanas are raisins. (Also, Tiny Teddies are the same thing as Teddy Grahams.)

Thanks for this list, Claire... It's great to have some extra ideas to choose from. I've been trying to eat healthier, and this is a good snack for anyone, young & old, because you can adjust it to wants/needs/occasions.

Sometimes we'll make this for parties at school, and we call it "friendship mix", because we ask everyone (or several kids) to each bring something.

For adults I like to toss a combo of nuts, crispy noodles, nutri grain (cereal) and sultanas with egg white and various spices (varies, but might include rosemary, paprika, cayenne, ginger, cardamom or I might just use a pre-mixed spice mix) and cook it at a low temp in the oven for a while, till the nuts are roasted but nothing is burnt.
I think Andi's comments above regarding nuts are worth noting, and I like her suggestion to use reusable containers.

I think it's technically only "gorp" when it's just Good Old Raisins and Peanuts.

I do this for my kids quite a bit. One we like has golden grahams, peanuts, M&M's, banana chips and raisins. My husband's mom always has a large container of trail mix on her counter.

May I suggest (having just spent 3 years with 2 kids at a kinder run by rubbish nazis - and I mean that in the nicest possible way!!!) that you store your trail mix in tiny tupperware containers rather than zip-lock bags. They can be re-used and cut down on the amount of rubbish produced. Also watch out for all those nuts and stuff with so many kids having allergies these days. They don't allow ANY nuts at our kinder and creche even when there are no allergic children attending.
